Here’s a short video about sewing the syrup and butter onto a mega ray: https://youtube.com/shorts/g5OFc98VWbY

Syrup
With dark brown yarn,
Round 1: Ch 2, 8 sc in first ch (8 sts)*
*if you prefer to start with the magic circle, work 8 sts into your magic circle
R2: 2 sc in each st around (16 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) 8 times (24 sts)
R4: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (30 sts)
R5: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (36)
R6: (Sc 5, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (42 sts)
R7: (Sc 6, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (48 sts)
R8: (Sc 7, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (54 sts)
It is very helpful to use a stitch marker for the next 3 rounds. Insert your stitch marker into the first st of the round.
R9: Sc (insert a st marker into this st), dc, 2 dc in next 3 sts, sc 4, sc 1, dc 2, 2 dc in next 2 sts, sc 10, dc 4, sc 5, dc, 2 dc in next st, 3 dc in next 2 sts, dc 2, sc 5, dc 2, 2 dc in next st, dc 2, sc 5 (65 sts)
R10: Sc 1 (insert a st marker into this st), dc 3, 2 dc in next st, dc 2, sc 7, dc, 2 dc in next st, (ch 4, dc 3, sl st)*, sc 12, dc 1, sc 1, (ch 4, dc 3, sl st), sc 13, (ch 5, dc 4, sl st), sc 12, dc 2, (ch 4, dc 3, sl st), sc 5, skip 1 st, sl st into the last st (78)
*the instructions inside the ( ) are crocheted on top of the previous stitch to create 1 syrup “drizzle”
R11: Sc a border around the whole syrup piece, making 2-3 sc sts at the tip of each drizzle; skip the last st and do a sl st into the first border st (approx 95 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a short yarn tail for weaving in. Your syrup piece will look as shown below.

Cut a long strand of dark brown #4 medium worsted weight acrylic yarn for sewing the syrup piece to the pancake ray (the plush yarn tail can be used, but may shed with so much sewing). Position the syrup piece onto the ray with one of the drizzles coming down between the eyes. Sew the syrup piece to the ray, sewing with the invisible seam stitch – inserting your needle down through the top of the syrup piece right inside the border and up a few sts over. Continue around the piece until it is securely attached all the way around.

Butter
Note: unlike the syrup piece, the butter is crocheted back and forth in rows.
With yellow (or cream) yarn,
Row 1: Ch 8, turn and sc 7 (7 sts)
R2-6: Ch 1, turn and sc 7 (7 sts x 5 rows)

Wait to fasten off. Starting from where you left off at R6, sc a border all the way around the butter square until you are back where you started. Then fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. The butter will look as shown below.

Sew the butter to the top of the syrup – again sewing with the invisible seam stitch – inserting your needle down through the top of the butter right inside the border of the butter and up a few sts over. Continue sewing around until the butter is securely attached.

And there you go, your mega sea pancake is finished! Enjoy!
